Kathy
Lubbock, TX
Bio:
Kathy has been teaching for 24 years and began teaching at Whiteside Elementary in 1997 as a Kindergarten teacher when the district began its full-day Kindergarten program. She taught Kindergarten for 9 years at Whiteside, opening her classroom door to many Texas Tech student teachers, new teachers in the building and throughout the district, and many special needs students.
In 2005, she helped write the brochure for the SOAR Pre-Kindergarten program that was presented to and approved by the LISD school board, and began teaching one of the pilot classrooms that next fall. The SOAR program has grown dramatically from the 3 original pilot classrooms, and now serves children at most of the elementary schools throughout the district.
Kathy continues to mentor Texas Tech field-based and student teachers, and currently serves on the DEIC committee for LISD and Whiteside CPOC (site-based committee). She has been or currently is a member of the Junior League of Lubbock, Delta Kappa Gamma sorority, TCTA, Lubbock Educators Association, and ASPCA. She presents LISD staff development workshops for beginning and experienced teachers, continues to rescue/rehabilitate animals, and provides support as needed to families and students at Whiteside. In May 2012, she received the Shirley Igo Outstanding Service Award from the Lubbock ISD Council PTA. Kathy and her husband have served as foster parents and have two adopted children.
